In Central America and the Caribbean, soccer — or fútbol as it’s known — is the most popular sport. And it means more than just a game. Soccer can help kids to leave poverty behind. They play in streets, backyards and crowded neighborhoods, using whatever they can find for a ball. All they need is a little space and a big dream. 

Karla from El Salvador has a big dream. She wants to become an international soccer player one day. Every week, her coach walks through dusty streets to pick her up for practice at her Compassion center. Karla’s grandma can’t afford uniforms or transportation, but the center helps her train, get to games and grow stronger. Now Karla is the captain of her team, and she was even chosen to train with the state squad! She’s one step closer to reaching her dream.
