Chores on the Door
Make this artsy door hanger
to remember to help your family.
As an Explorer, you care about helping others. Good news: You don't even have to leave home to be helpful. Every time you finish a chore, you help your whole family.
Kids who live in poor countries do chores to help their families too. Many kids walk long distances to collect water because they have no running water at home. Some kids wash dirty clothes and dishes in rivers because their families can't afford washing machines or electricity. While you make this craft, imagine how much harder your chores would be without water, machines or electricity.
Supplies
- recycled cardboard box
- scissors
- art supplies such as acrylic paint, colorful paper, stickers and/or glitter glue
- clothespins
- fine-point marker
Step 1
Adult help needed. Cut the cardboard into a rectangle about 4 inches by 9 inches.
Step 2
Create a nice background on the cardboard. You could paint it with acrylic paint and let it dry, or glue on a piece of colorful paper cut to the same size as the cardboard.
Step 3
Cut out a circle in the hanger big enough to fit around your bedroom doorknob.
Step 4
Choose different art supplies to decorate the door hanger. Write the words “To Do” on one side and “Done” on the other side. You can write your name on it too!
Step 5
With the fine-point marker, write one of your chores on both sides of a clothespin. Repeat this step for each of your chores.
Step 6
Attach the clothespins to the “To Do” side of the hanger. Slide the hanger over your bedroom doorknob.
Step 7
When you finish a task, move that clothespin to the “Done” side of the hanger. Mission accomplished!
