Chick out this egg-citing opportunity!

Why are we clucking about chickens? Because of YOU, Explorers! Last year, you chose chickens as the top gift to help kids in need. How eggs-traordinary!

This year, let’s team up to give chickens to 100 families in need.
Chickens are amazing! They provide meat and eggs for healthy meals and can be sold for extra money. A gift of $40 provides chickens for one family.

Ready to help? Join us in reaching this goal, and enjoy the chicken activities in these pages. You’ll learn cool facts about our feathered friends!

Together we can make a big difference — one chicken at a time!

When Juna gets home from school, the first thing she does is run to her fluffy baby chicks and scoop them up into her hands. The 11-year-old lives in a small village in Colombia with her parents and sisters. Her dad worked hard driving a motorcycle, but his job didn’t always pay enough for food.

When Juna’s dad lost his job things got even harder. That’s when Compassion stepped in to help. They gave Juna’s family 30 chickens and seeds and even helped set up a small farm!

Juna’s mom learned how to take care of the chickens and grow crops. Soon they had 200 chickens and lots of vegetables to eat and sell! Juna loves helping on the farm, feeding the chickens and watering the plants.

Juna’s family now has enough food, and they can even earn money by selling their harvest and the eggs. Juna loves watching the chicks grow!

Make a Feathered Friend!

You’ll need:

  • Egg carton.
  • Yellow paint.
  • Black marker.
  • Yellow and orange cardboard or paper.
  • Scissors.
  • Tape.
  • Googly eyes (optional).

Instructions:

  1. Adult help needed. Cut it out! Carefully cut out two egg carton cups. Trim the edges so the two cups fit together.
  2. Hinge it up! Use a small piece of tape (painter’s tape works great!) to attach the cups and make a hinge so they can open and close.
  3. Paint it! Paint the egg carton cups yellow and let them dry.
  4. Beak it! Cut out two yellow triangles and two orange triangles. Glue one yellow triangle on each side of the inside bottom cup. Then, glue one orange triangle on the inside front of each cup. These will be your beaks!
  5. Feet first! Cut out two orange feet from cardboard or paper and glue them to the bottom cup.
  6. Add eyes! Draw eyes with a black marker or glue on googly eyes for extra fun.
  7. Now you have your own cluck-tastic chicken!
